Focusing on what you DO have

The last couple of months since we moved out of our house have been very hard.  I had high hopes, was full of excitement, plans and dreams.  But since we aren't in the new house yet, and not knowing when it's going to happen, it's really hard to be so positive.  Especially when you are in a place you don't want to be.  Don't get me wrong, I am thankful to have a roof over our heads, but it's not comfortable.  It's not "home".  Despite how we try to make it home, we all feel it.  It's just not.

I have found myself being very negative lately.  It's so easy to focus on what you don't have.  It's easy to be bitter and angry.  I wish it wasn't so easy.  Even having these thoughts brings me down.  Don't get me wrong, I am not having these feeling just because we aren't in our house yet.  There are so many things right now that are going wrong.  It seems like we are a snowball rolling down a hill.  And the problems escalate and just get bigger and bigger.    Eventually that snowball has to get down the hill and when it does it will break open and things will get better.  It has to!

So, I have decided to try to turn my thinking around and think about the positive.  Think about what we DO have.  Every time a negative thought pops into my mind I have made a commitment to follow it up with two positive thoughts.  I figure eventually it's got to turn around, right?  See....it's already happening....that was pretty positive, right?  :)

I know I can't be the only person who goes through this. What do you do to turn around your thoughts when you get in a funk?  Do you purposely do something to change your thoughts or do you just ride it out?  I would love to hear what other people do to get through hard times.

down---to---earth: The genuine article

down---to---earth: The genuine article

I know I said I was going to write and share pictures of our Egg Geode experiement, which is turning out really, really cool! But I read this blog post by Rhonda this morning and it really hit home. Thought it was too good to keep to myself!  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Please help find this missing person

Before I got pregnant with Maggie I worked for the company that Bryan Scobey worked for. I worked in the Termite Dept and he was in Pest Control. I didn't stay at the job long as I was put on strict bedrest and never returned to work, so I never got to know Bryan well. But what I do know is he was always smiling, always seemed happy and was an all around nice guy. Sadly he went missing on January 13th. Nobody has seen him or his work truck. He has just vanished.

Even if you don't live in our immediate area, please take a look at his picture and what his truck looks like. You just never know what you might see.

If you click here you can see a little more information as well as a truck that is very similar to the one Bryan was driving. Help bring this man back to his wife and children safely.

Bring Bryan Home

Thank you!

National Down Syndrome Awareness Month!

I've been struggling the last few days on what to write about National Down Syndrome Awareness Month. Down Syndrome is something very near and dear to my heart. I was blessed on August 31, 1989 with my daughter, Shawna Nicole. She was born with Down Syndrome. Shawna taught me things I never would have learned without her in my life. Because of her and who she was I would not be the person I am today. She was the absolute joy of my life. Sadly she passed away on August 26, 1991.

What I want people to know is, don't be afraid of Down Syndrome. It is not a death sentence. Having it doesn't mean you will live a dreadful life. People who have Down Syndrome are just like you and me. They go to school, they work, they play sports, they participate in making decisions about their lives, they get married, the list goes on. Life with someone who has Down Syndrome is really pretty "normal". There is nothing unique, strange or sad. Life changes, but doesn't that happen anyway?

Shiver me timbers, pirate day be upon us!!!

What a fun day! International Talk Like A Pirate Day started in 1995 as a joke between two friends, John Baur (Ol' Chumbucket) and Mark Summers, (Cap'n Slappy), of Albany, Oregon. What started out as a joke between two friends became a fun day for everyone!

So to "celebrate" ITLAPD we are going to watch The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything.

And, just for fun I changed my language on Facebook to Pirate :)

Have a fun day!

Starting Over

Well, as the title says, I'm starting over! A whole new blog.

Chris' favorite cookies are Snickerdoodles. Maggie and I decided we would make him some for part of his Father's Day gift. We started making the cookies before Chris got home. When Maggie heard him pull in the driveway her excited squeal and her "I have to hide" was routine just like any other evening. Chris came thru the door, Maggie giggling under the blanket on the couch. Chris acting like he doesn't know where Maggie is. All of a sudden Maggie popped up and yelled out "me and mommy are making you Snoodledoodles for Father's Day".

Well, Chris and I giggled and fell in love with Snoodledoodles. It's become "the word" over the last day in our house. So, there you have it. I love it! I hope you do too!

I am so happy to get back to blogging. So much has happened since I last wrote. I took a few months hiatus due to some big issues going on. The biggest is that I quit my job. I am once again a Stay At Home Mommy! I can not tell you how good it feels to be back home!
I am slowly getting back into a routine.

Maggie and I are currently working on a Mermaid diorama that we got in this weeks newsletter from KCW (http://www.kidscraftweekly.com). Amber out did herself this time as far as Maggie is concerned. I took some pictures but haven't downloaded them yet. So far we got the Starfish done. Tomorrow we are working on the jellyfish and going to the beach at the lake to get some sand. Can't wait to post pictures and show you!

So glad to be at this again and hoping that all my readers find me again!

Have a great night!
